Happy Birthday Jon!

The North Shore Scenic Railway here in Duluth had a "beer-tasting train" that just happened to fall on the eve of Jon's birthday. What better way to celebrate than with some local brew, good food, and seatmates who just happened to be from Madison. Here is a photo from our journey up the shore. It's not very clear, but you can see the old train...and I think that is a ghost in the background above my shoulder!!! (No? Oh, never mind.)

This morning Jon wanted to go to Hawk's Ridge to watch the bird migration so we headed up the hill to the overlook above our neighborhood. What an awesome morning! The weather was perfect and it was a very cool sight to see!

Da-dee and Henry watching a hawk being released.

Hawk education by the Observatory volunteers.

Me and Henry looking down on Lakeside from above!!

Henry learning about song birds. This volunteer was taking them out of
little squirmy sacks and banding their legs before setting them free.

Of course we celebrated family-style with a big birthday dinner; this year we celebrated Jon and James together. We had pecan pie again, just like last year, but this year there was also CHERRY PIE!!! Yum, yum, YUM.

Happy Birthday!
