We had a GREAT family camping trip up the shore early this week. We started out with a fifteen-minute "crying and whining" soundtrack to our tour of the shore, but before we hit Two Harbors, this was the scene in the backseat:
Henry ended up sleeping all the way to Grand Marais...which
made for a nice, relaxed, and peaceful drive north for us.
We spent much of our first day in Grand Marais as we couldn't check in at the campground until 4:00. We walked all over town, checked out Artist's Point, waved to some ducks, and threw about two hundred rocks into the water.
Dada with Henry...traveling in comfort and style.
Lots of great skipping rocks.
We were finally able to check in at the campsite and had some time to relax by the fire and let Henry fully experience his first night at the site.
Enjoying drinks around the campfire.
Henry's first hot dog roast.
We think the perfect caption for this one is,
"I belong in the woods."
Lots of exploring! Here is Henry owning the trail.
Really good dinner the first night - we were all big fans.
Swingin' in the hammock.
Henry's first marshmallow. Monumental.
This is how much he loves marshmallows.
After the first bite, he ran around to the other side of the picnic
table to hide. I'm pretty sure it was so I didn't take back his marshmallow.
The second day we did a little hike up to Cascade Mountain lookout. It was a hot day and a slow hike; in fact, this is what much of it looked like:
"Look, Mama! Another rock!"
We did finally reach the top and found a nice shady spot to rest and refuel.
It was worth the trip up.
And apparently my leg makes a great plate. Henry pretty
much just ate chocolate for lunch on this day. Epic.
Family "CHEESE"
I can't stop posting these adorable pictures, my apologies!! Here is Henry in Dada's bandana. Notice how he is nicely sitting in his camp chair with his bowl balanced beautifully on his little lap.
That's my boy.
I think Henry loves camping. He was all smiles the entire three days. What is better than hanging out outside all day, having hundreds of rocks and sticks within eyesight at any given time, eating chocolate and marshmallows, and having all day to just explore new places?
So much fun! We plan to make this an annual trip.
