We continue to receive BabyCenter emails each week. Rather than the developments of the baby within, they now focus on the development of the baby “on the outside.” This week talks about stranger anxiety (not yet for us), and “having fun with your baby.” There is a section on singing that I especially liked; here is what it said:
Try singing a song in a low growly voice and then in a high squeaky voice, to see which gets the most reaction. Try singing the song breathily into your baby's ear, or use a hand puppet (or a napkin or sock willing to play the part of a hand puppet). And get used to singing, because this could begin to eat up a significant portion of your day.
This made me laugh. We do a LOT of singing around here. And we get some great reactions to singing so we keep doing it. Here are a few of my favorite titles, in no particular order:
· Henry’s the Big Boy
· Rub-a-Dub-Dub (Henry’s in the tub)
· Big Guy…Sweet Boy
· The Good Morning Song
· This Old Man (Knick-Knack-Fanny-Whack)
· Are You Big or Are You Small?
· We’ve Got the Best Daddy in the World
· Stinkerpie (to the tune of Silver Bells)
· Alligator Head
Mama Thought You Pooped Your Pants (But You Didn't!)
Mama Thought You Pooped Your Pants (But You Didn't!)
· Snuggle, Jiggle, Rock
· Henry’s Got a Diaper Butt
The days of deep squats at 6:00am to calm a crying baby are over – he reacts to singing and can be distracted by funny noises. He also gets a kick out of me dancing in the kitchen when trying to get the dishes done and keep him from fussing at the same time. Dishes are one thing I am not talented enough to do while he is in the Baby Bjorn. Tell me you wouldn’t sing Just About Anything to this sweet boy:
That's what I thought.
